496-120 Plate Glass Carriage
The 496 glass transport carrier was originally designed to transport large insulating glazing and display windows. This classic carrier from the 50s has now been reimagined to give birth to our new glass pane transport carrier, the 496-120.
This new glass pane transport carrier is available in two versions: the 496-120, with a support surface width of 120 mm (4.7 inches), and the 496-90, with a support surface width of 90 mm (3.5 inches) The remaining characteristics of these two models are identical.
The larger support surface width of the new 496-120 glass carrier means that even entire prefabricated windows can be easily transported now. Moreover, a versatile vacuum suction grip system ensures that virtually any object with a smooth, air-impermeable surface can be reliably secured onto the 496-120 carrier, regardless of the distance from the supports.
The enormous advantage provided by the carrier’s wider contact area is further complemented by the 3° tilt angle of its supports, which ensure that the load being transported will be stable on horizontal surfaces.
And to increase the level of stability, the carrier mechanism has been widened as well. In order to make it easy to move the carrier’s maximum load of 1,650 pounds, wheels and steering articulations with ball bearings have been used, making it possible for even a single person to move a full 1,650 pounds without much effort. The 496-120 glass carrier makes it extremely easy to move large laminates, panes, sheet material, etc.
Its standard wheels have an approx. diameter of 250 mm (9.8 inches), making them ideal for negotiating small obstacles and maintaining a ground clearance of 60 mm (2.3 inches). However, these wheels can also be changed for smaller ones in case the vertical clearances at your site require this. Using wheels with a diameter of 200 mm (7.8 inches) would still leave a ground clearance of approx. 35 mm (1.3 inches), and for extreme cases, wheels with a diameter of 150 mm (5.9 inches) can be used as well. Of course, the ground clearance will be accordingly reduced to 10 mm (.39 inches).
The maximum steering angle of 45° on both of the 496-120’s individual carrier units make even the largest glass panes extremely manoeuvrable. Meanwhile, the wide wheels result in a smaller contact pressure being exerted on the ground, making it easier to move loads around.
In fact, everyone who has tried the carrier has been amazed at the ease with which 1,650 lbs can now be rolled anywhere. The large adjustment range featured by both individual carrier units, from approx. 2.5 to 4.0 m, ensures that any length can be handled.
And as if that were not enough, the glass carrier can be quickly disassembled into two parts and a tube assembly for easy transportation to your work site in virtually any vehicle.
